Corona del Mar Beach
Corona del Mar is an affluent neighborhood in Newport Beach, California. This Spanish named community is beautifully and aptly named as it is known as the Crown of the Sea. There are gorgeous beaches and a unique selection of shopping and dining experiences in this seaside community located at the foot of the San Joaquin Hills and facing the Pacific Ocean. It is also conveniently located within an hour of several major airports and metropolitan areas.
There are lots of recreational activities available to tourists and residents of Corona del Mar Beach. The Sherman Library and Gardens is a botanical and horticultural delight with an extensive vegetation collection including rare cacti, forty year old ferns and a tropical conservatory. The Library also has a complete history of the area with thousands of books and pamphlets. The Sherman Library and Gardens has been called “Two acres of beauty” by those who have visited the retreat. Over 150 volunteers work thousands of hours a year to help tend the flower beds, work in the greenhouse and garden shop.
Several beaches line this seaside community, such as Crystal Cove State Park and Big Corona State Beach. Crystal Cove State Park is a popular site for those interested in hiking, horseback riding or water sports. One unusual feature of the park is the offshore water area which has been designated as an underwater park. Visitors to the park can spend the day fishing, hiking or scuba diving and then camp at one of the three campgrounds in the evening. The park offers a complete adventure for outdoor enthusiasts.
Big Corona State Beach stretches a half mile wide and is a traditional beach area with volleyball players, sunbathers, surfers and divers. It is framed by cliffs and a rock jetty giving visitors a beautiful backdrop to their Pacific Ocean experience. Although Corona del Mar is a small community located within Newport Beach, it is almost as if it is a village of its own. The community receives its municipal services from the City of Newport Beach but has its own chamber of commerce and residents can receive mail addressed to Corona del Mar if they live in the 92625 zip code.
Since the community is located within Newport Beach, residents or visitors can take advantage of all that Newport Beach has to offer as well. There is something delightful about being able to live or stay in a small, beautiful seaside community yet travel a short distance to experience other cultural and recreational pursuits.
